There is no such thing as a “quickie divorce”

The “quickie divorce” doesn’t exist despite what you read in the press We often read in the media about celebrities being granted a “#quickiedivorce” and this misleads and confuses people when they are later told by their solicitor that an uncontested #divorce takes, on average, 4-6 months. Although, given what are now standard but lengthy delays at the courts this is becoming 6-8 months. Many divorces take longer, sometimes years, as the #financial arrangements need to be agreed and made an order by the court.

The misconception is caused by the misunderstanding the granting of the decree Nisi. The #decreeNisi is the halfway stage when the court considers the divorce application and pronounces in open court it is satisfied the applicant is entitled legally to a divorce.

The #divorceprocess is

1. Application to the court

2. Evidence of service of the papers

3. Decree Nisi pronounced

4. 6 weeks and 1 day after the #decreeAbsolute can be applied for dissolving the #marriage.
